The town of Salado, Texas is a beautiful and historic village between the cities of Austin and Waco. Known for its artistic vibe, Salado is home to many Texas artists and craftsmen and boasts 10 art galleries, numerous sculptures (many by local artists), and several performing arts venues which stage various musical and theatrical events throughout the year.

Salado also has a rich history, dating back to its founding in 1859. Historic artifacts can be found throughout the town, as well as 23 Texas Historical Markers and 18 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. From wagon wheel ruts still seen in the limestone bed of Salado creek to Salado Legends, the only musical to be chosen by the Library of Congress as a record of 19th century American life, history buffs are sure to find something of interest in Salado.

Nature is a dominant part of Salado’s atmosphere. Events such as the Wild Flower Art Festival and Art in the Park showcase the distinct influence flora and fauna have on life for Salado residents. In addition, Salado is home to Salado Creek and Pace Park, the state’s first designated natural landmark. The citizens of Salado strive to preserve its natural beauty with programs such as Keep Salado Beautiful, a community venture dedicated to educating and engaging the people of Salado to take responsibility for improving their community environment. This commitment to protecting its resources and environment makes Salado an ideal place to explore the environmental ideas of the future.

Salado is a unique town, blending the historic and the progressive and offering something for everyone. It is well worth it to visit this community that is artfully yours.
